Jack and Jill Cover

Typography and Symbol Book Cover
I was given a prompt to create a book cover for a nursery rhyme using symbols given to me. The book cover had to represent a line from the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill. I chose the line "Jack Fell Down" because I felt it was a bit different than the other lines like fetch a pail of water.
The symbols I was given for this piece were a mouse, an exclamation and a slanted square. I used the mouse symbol to represent Jack. Nobody said Jack was a human, so I decided to make a more interesting story by making him a mouse, I then used the exclamation mark to show the action and shock of falling down the "hill" (The slanted square in this case). And as I previously stated I cut off half of a slanted square and made it look like this dramatic cliff. I didn't want my book cover to necessarily look like a children's book, instead I wanted to seem like a murder mystery or more modern tale. I accomplished this by adding a limited palette that had more mute and serious tones than a normal children's book.
